Joe Biden becomes president-elect, Jill Biden becomes the next First Lady.

Biden will become the 46th president on Jan. 20.

Joe Biden became president-elect Saturday after winning Pennsylvania, NBC News has projected.

Biden focused his campaign aggressively on President Donald Trump’s widely criticized handling of the coronavirus pandemic, which was seen by many voters as the most important issue facing the country.

Bidepredicted victory Friday night as he maintained his Electoral College lead over Trump and had overtaken the president in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada. Meanwhile, Trump and his campaign had vowed to fight on even if Biden were declared the winner, saying they are planning for a protracted legal fight across the battleground states.

Jill Biden: From teacher to US first lady

The first thing to know about America's next first lady is that Jill Biden – a college English professor with four degrees, including a doctorate – is going to be a very busy FLOTUS since she plans to keep her day job after moving into the White House.

After all, she continued teaching at Northern Virginia Community College during the eight years she served as second lady, working closely with the historic then-first lady Michelle Obama.

The latter considers Biden a "dear friend," who brings "kindness, empathy, and humor to even the most difficult of situations."

"She is going to be a terrific First Lady,” Obama said in a statement to USA TODAY.
